Tournament Information

Tournament Date: Friday – Sunday, February 9-11, 2018

Games will be played at Demuth Park (4365 E. Mesquite Ave, Palm Springs) and Big League Dreams Sports Park in Cathedral City.  Games will start at 8 a.m. both days with finals in all divisions played at Big League Dreams.

Tournament Size: Limited to the first 80 teams on a first-come, first-served basis.

Divisions have been set up as follows:

  • B Division: 16 teams
  • C Division: 32 teams
  • D Division: 32 teams

Tournament Format: Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of four (4) games. Teams will be placed in brackets from a blind draw. However, if possible, no two teams from the same league will be placed in the same portion of the brackets.

Entry Fee: Registration for teams is $425 and must be received by January 5, 2018.

After January 5, 2018, registration will be $450 per team and must be received no later than January 31, 2018.

Entry Deadline:

Friday, January 19, 2018 (This deadline will be strictly enforced to allow for the draw, bracket and opening game time information to be mailed out and received prior to the tournament.)

It must be completed fully and faxed to (760) 323-8279 by January 19, 2018. There is a roster limit of 18 players per team plus one non-playing manager and one scorekeeper. During games, teams may use 12 players in their lineups, employing two EP’s.

Trophies will be presented to the first, second and third place teams in each division.
First, second and third place teams in each division will be presented with a check for the AIDS Agency/Organization in their respective cities.

Teams are not required to have alike-colored uniforms. However, an Arabic whole number (0 – 99) of contrasting color at least 6 inches high must be worn and visible on the back of all uniform shirts. No players on the same team may wear identical numbers (“0” and “00” or “3” and “03” are examples of identical numbers.) Players without numbers will not be permitted to play.

Team Eligibility*
“B” Open Division – A team whose 2017 NAGAAA player rating** is above 135 and below or equal to 195, based on the sum of the 10 highest-rated players on the team. There will be no limit to an individual player’s rating.
“C” Open Division – A team whose 2017 NAGAAA player rating** is above 95 and below or equal to 135, based on the sum of the 10 highest-rated players on the team. No players rated higher than a 14 are eligible.
“D” Open Division – A team whose 2017 NAGAAA player rating** is less or equal to 95, based on the sum of the 10 highest-rated players on the team. No players rated higher than an 10 are eligible.

* Players Without Ratings (Open Division)
For the Open Division only, players without a rating will be asked to complete a player rating assessment form to be filled out by the team manager or coach prior to their team’s acceptance into the Winter Classic.  ONLY TWO (2) NON-RATED PLAYERS PER TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

** A player’s rating is determined by his/her designation on the 2017 NAGAAA roster or his/her most recent rating if one was not submitted in July 2017.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Registration & Rosters: All players must register to play by signing the official Winter Classic “waiver/release” form in Palm Springs. Registration will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Hunter’s Video Bar, 302 E. Arenas Road, Palm Springs, CA 92262 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and at the fields on Saturday. All players must register by signing their team’s “waiver/release” form prior to bracket play beginning. Players will not be eligible to play if they have not signed in before bracket play begins. Any player found playing a bracket game without having signed the player “waiver/release” form is subject to suspension and the team will forfeit that game. Any previous bracket game is also subject to forfeiture. A photo ID will be required at registration. All teams must submit their team roster with ratings for their players on or before January 19, 2018.  NAGAAA ratings will be checked against the rosters submitted with assistance of the Palm Springs Gay Softball League (PSGSL). For any player that does not have a current NAGAAA rating, the manager will need to submit a ratings form with the answers to the NAGAAA Player and Team Rating Guidelines 2017. ONLY TWO (2) NON-RATED PLAYERS PER TEAM.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!  There will be no managers meeting. Player and manager packets can be picked up at registration.

Pick-Up Players: A team may pick up added players after their final roster is due if the players do not adversely affect the overall team rating (meaning that it will not put the team into a higher division.) Pick-up players must bring proof of current rating. Pick-up players must register prior to playing and be on a team’s roster for at least one round-robin game.
